On Sundays I will post a short devotional from my husband Jake. As some of you know Jake is a pastor. He also posts devotionals and TikToks bringing God’s word! If you want to check out his facebook or TikTok follow the links! This week we will be looking at who or what we worship! Who will you be worshipping God or the Golden Calf?

Exodus 32 we read what happened with the people of Israel and the golden calf. Not long after the LORD delivered the people from Egypt, instructed them in how they should live, made a covenant with them to which they responded ‘All the words that the LORD has spoken we will do.’ (Ex 24: 3) we see them turn their back and create a golden idol to worship. Almost just as shocking as this whole thing, is Aaron’s response to what he has done when Moses questions him about how he could let this happen. We read that he melted their gold down and fashioned it into this calf, but He tells Moses ‘I threw it (the gold) into the fire and out came the calf.’

(Ex 32: 24)

He just threw it in and this calf popped out all by itself, sounds pretty crazy right? But have we ever tried to use that kind of reasoning for the sins in our own lives? ‘Well I just… and all of a sudden this happened.’ ‘I just found myself involved all of a sudden.’ Does it really ever just happen all of a sudden? Or is it the result of the REAL sin that took place first, turning from God and worshiping something else? That’s what happened with the Israelites, Moses was away (for 40 days meeting with God) and the people said, ‘We don’t know what happened to Moses, so make us new gods to worship.’

(Ex 32:1)

We may not be setting up ‘golden calves’, but make no mistake some of the ways we prioritize and live our lives is nothing less than idolatry. Sometimes life gets difficult, sometimes we can’t always see the way God is working, but the answer is not to turn to whatever we find right in front of us. The answer is not to turn to something lesser, something that can not even compare when the LORD God Almighty has made Himself available to us.

I hope you liked this weeks devotional and will join us next Sunday for another devotional! If you have any biblical questions or any verses you want discussed comment below and we will read them and try to answer them!
